Todorovs Theory of narrative

I have decided to apply Todorovs theory of narrative to my product. I have done this to make a comparison from the theorists to what I have actually made, but also to see whether the product conforms or contrasts it.
I have researched Todorov and his theory and feel that I have conformed but also contrasted the music video in comparison to his theory. Todorov stated in his theory that all music videos should start with equilibrium a state of equality between all the characters in the music video, then the disruption takes over, followed by recognition and resolution and then followed by the return of the equilibrium.

I have contrasted this as I have started the video with the disruption. I have conveyed this through the character being alone as the result of love, and the lyrics follow the same tone. I feel that I could not have started the music video with equilibrium as the lyrics would then not match the lyrics, a trait which is important in Goodwin’s theory. Most of the video disruption phase, with the recognition and resolution fading in and out of the video, but with equilibrium being shown at the end of the video. I have conveyed this throughout the video with the use of black and white and the emotions used by the artist. I feel that it was important to keep the character as alone in the video as this demonstrates the depth of the disruption.
